Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
ScrapCarQuick ("we", "us", "our") operates the website https://www.scrapcarquick.co.uk. The site and service are owned and operated by MW.Codes (the "operator"), which acts as the data controller for personal information collected through this website.
ScrapCarQuick is a lead-introduction service. We are not a scrap dealer ourselves — we connect people who want to scrap a vehicle with independent, licensed scrap and end-of-life vehicle (ELV) dealers across the UK. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, share, store, and protect your personal information when you use our website, request a quote, or register interest as a partner dealer.
2. How the service works (in plain English)
When you submit a quote enquiry on this website, here is what actually happens with your data:
- Your submission (vehicle details, postcode, name, email, and phone number) is received by us at ScrapCarQuick / MW.Codes.
- We then forward your submission by email to one or more of our partner scrap dealers — independent, licensed scrap and salvage businesses operating in or near your postcode area.
- The partner dealer (or dealers) you have been matched with will use the contact details you provided to get in touch with you directly to give you a quote and arrange collection if you accept.
- We retain a copy of the submission ourselves for our own records, quality monitoring, complaint handling, and to operate and improve the service.
Important: we cannot guarantee that a partner dealer will contact you, or how quickly they will do so. Partner dealers are independent businesses and the timing, value, and outcome of any quote is between you and them. We are not party to the contract you may enter into with a partner dealer for the sale, collection, or scrapping of your vehicle.
From time to time, MW.Codes may also contact you directly — for example, to check on your experience with a partner dealer, to audit service quality, to follow up on a complaint, or to confirm the details of a submission. These contacts are part of operating the service and are kept to what is reasonably necessary.
3. Information we collect
3.1 Quote form submissions
When you use our quote form, we collect:
- Vehicle registration number — used to look up your vehicle details via the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service.
- Vehicle details from DVLA — including make, colour, year, fuel type, engine capacity, MOT status, tax status, and other publicly available vehicle data returned by the DVLA API.
- Postcode — used to determine your collection area and decide which partner dealer(s) to forward your enquiry to. We also validate your postcode and retrieve your general area information (district, county, and region) via the Postcodes.io service.
- Name, email address, and phone number — used to identify you to the partner dealer(s) we forward your enquiry to so they can contact you with a quote and arrange collection.
3.2 Partner expression of interest
When scrap dealers or collection companies register their interest via our partner form, we collect:
- Company name and website
- Contact name, email address, and phone number
- Postcode area preferences — the outward postcode codes you wish to cover
- Any additional message you include about your business
3.3 Automatically collected data
We collect standard website usage data through analytics services, including pages visited, browser type, device type, referring website, and approximate geographic location. This data is used in anonymised or aggregated form to improve our website.
4. How we use your information
We use your personal information to:
- Look up your vehicle details via the DVLA so the partner dealer can produce an accurate quote.
- Validate your postcode and retrieve your general area information to decide which partner dealer(s) to forward your enquiry to.
- Forward your submission by email to one or more partner scrap dealers operating in your area, so they can contact you.
- Retain a copy of your submission for our own records, quality monitoring, dispute or complaint handling, and to operate and improve the service.
- Contact you, where appropriate, to check on your experience with a partner dealer, audit service quality, follow up on a complaint, or confirm details of a submission.
- Process partner expressions of interest and contact prospective partners about joining our network.
- Improve our service and website experience through anonymised analytics.
We will not use your information for unrelated marketing purposes unless you explicitly opt in.
5. Legal basis for processing
We process your personal data on the following legal bases under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR):
- Contract / pre-contractual steps — processing your quote request and forwarding it to a partner dealer is necessary to provide the introduction service you have requested.
- Legitimate interest — to respond to enquiries, audit partner dealer quality, contact you about your experience with a partner, improve our service, prevent abuse, and manage our partner network.
- Consent — by submitting a form on our website you consent to us processing your data and forwarding it to one or more partner dealers for the purposes described in this policy. You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us.
6. Who we share your data with
6.1 Partner scrap and collection dealers
When you submit a quote enquiry, your submission — including your vehicle details, postcode, name, email address, and phone number — is forwarded by email to one or more independent partner scrap dealers operating in or near your area. The partner dealer(s) become independent data controllers for the personal data we forward to them and are responsible for how they use it under their own privacy policies and applicable law.
Partner dealers are licensed UK scrap, salvage, and end-of-life vehicle businesses. We require them to use your data only to contact you about your enquiry and to handle the purchase, collection, and scrapping of your vehicle if you choose to proceed. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
We cannot guarantee that a partner dealer will contact you, or control how quickly they do so. If you have not been contacted within a reasonable time, or if you would like to be removed from a particular partner's records, please contact us at hello@mw.codes and we will help you follow it up.
6.2 Other third-party services
We also use the following third-party services to operate the website:
- DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service — to retrieve publicly available vehicle data based on your registration number. Your registration number is sent to the DVLA API; no other personal data is shared with the DVLA.
- Postcodes.io — an open-source postcode lookup service operated by Ideal Postcodes Ltd. Your postcode is sent to their API to validate it and retrieve general geographic information (district, county, region). No other personal data is shared with this service.
- Google Analytics — to collect anonymised website usage statistics. Google may process this data on servers outside the UK; see Google's privacy policy for details.
- Email service provider (SMTP) — to deliver enquiry and partner notifications to our own team, to partner dealers, and to administrative recipients at MW.Codes.
- Hosting provider — the website is hosted on infrastructure that may process data on servers in the UK and EEA.
7. International data transfers
Some of our third-party service providers may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where this occurs, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the UK Information Commissioner's Office, or the service provider being located in a country with an adequacy decision.
8. How long we keep your data
- Quote enquiries (held by us) — retained for up to 12 months from submission, then deleted or anonymised.
- Quote enquiries (held by partner dealers) — once your submission has been forwarded by email, the partner dealer holds it under their own retention policy. To request deletion from a partner dealer, please contact them directly or contact us at hello@mw.codes and we will help you follow it up.
- Partner expressions of interest — retained for up to 24 months, or for the duration of any resulting partnership agreement.
- Website analytics — retained in anonymised form for up to 26 months.
- Email communications — retained for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for which they were sent.
9. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access — you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct any inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your personal data.
- Right to restrict processing — you can ask us to limit how we use your data.
- Right to data portability — you can request your data in a machine-readable format.
- Right to object — you can object to the processing of your personal data.
- Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@mw.codes. We aim to respond to all requests within 30 days.
10. Cookies
Our website uses the following types of cookies:
- Strictly necessary cookies — essential for the website to function, such as session management. These cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) — used to understand how visitors interact with our site, including pages visited, time on site, and referring sources. These cookies collect information in an anonymised form.
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling analytics cookies will not affect the functionality of our website. For more information about cookies, visit aboutcookies.org.
11. Data security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include:
- All data transmitted through our forms is sent over encrypted HTTPS connections.
- API endpoints are protected with authentication, rate limiting, and origin verification.
- Access to personal data is restricted to authorised personnel only.
- We regularly review and update our security practices.
12. Children's privacy
Our services are not directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child, please contact us so we can delete it promptly.
13. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's supervisory authority for data protection. You can contact the ICO at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns before you approach the ICO, so please contact us first.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Material changes will be highlighted where possible.
15. Contact us
If you have questions about this privacy policy, want to opt out of contact from a partner dealer, or want to exercise any of your data protection rights, please contact the operator at hello@mw.codes (ScrapCarQuick is operated by MW.Codes).
